People seek facelifts when they feel their appearance looks older because of sagging skin, wrinkles, fine lines, and less skin elasticity. Facelifts are usually the next step once medspa treatments no longer achieve a desired, more youthful look.

What To Expect After

Following facelift surgery, patients typically begin the recovery at an aftercare facility or at home with the assistance of a qualified nurse. The following day, Dr. Kian examines the incisions to ensure they are beginning to heal correctly and there are no signs of infection. Once this is done, patients can recover in their own home. Between that time and one-week post-surgery, patients are checked again then return to have their stitches removed.

Most patients take up to two weeks off from work to allow the incisions to heal and swelling and bruising to diminish. At this point, makeup camouflages any leftover bruising or redness. During the initial healing, there is only slight discomfort and tightness in the neck. These issues resolve themselves within a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR a facelift?

A: The ideal candidate for a facelift shows definite signs of aging in the face through sagging facial skin and deep wrinkles, lines, and folds around the features of the face. They may also have lost a significant amount of weight causing their skin to sag or create jowls. Additionally, they may have achieved a smooth complexion using dermal fillers and injectables but want a more permanent solution for their appearance.

Q: HOW DO I PREPARE FOR A FACELIFT?

A: Through a consultation, you and your surgeon can talk about your desires and expectations and the best approach to reach them. Because a facelift is considered major surgery, it is necessary to have an overall health checkup as well as bloodwork to ensure you are in good health. Additionally, it is recommended that if you smoke, you stop a few weeks prior to and following the procedure as it can negatively affect the outcome. It is also suggested that you avoid taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements that tend to increase bruising and delay the healing process.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE APPOINTMENT?

A: Facelift procedures have been perfected and have become less invasive over the past few years. Once the anesthesia has been administered, incisions are made typically around the hairline and around the ears. The extent of the incisions depends on the degree of work to be done. At that point, fat is sculpted, if necessary, to add volume and contour to the face then the skin is tightened, and the incisions are closed. Excess skin is removed, and the incisions are dressed and bandaged.

Q: HOW LONG DOES A FACELIFT PROCEDURE TAKE?

A: Facelift procedures often take about two to three hours depending on the procedure and whether other procedures are done at the same time.

Q: WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS?

A: The results start to reveal themselves gradually as the healing process takes place. It starts with the incisions healing then moves to the bruising going away and the swelling subsiding. Swelling takes a few months to completely disappear and the full results of the facelift to take effect. It is important to understand that as the healing process proceeds, the results gradually become more visible.

Q: HOW LONG WILL MY FACELIFT RESULTS LAST?

A: When a consistent skin care regimen is maintained, the results of a facelift last for years. Many patients continue with medspa treatments, including skin rejuvenation and dermal fillers and injectables, to preserve their youthful appearance.

Q: WHAT IS THE COST OF A FACELIFT?

A: The cost of a facelift varies with each patient as it is based on the extent of the surgery and whether other treatments or procedures are done at the same time. During a consultation, we go over the costs as well as our payment and financing options. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards as well as offer financing through CareCredit®.

Q: WILL I HAVE SCARS AFTER?

A: With facelifts, incisions are made as close to the hairline as possible, and behind the ears where they are less conspicuous. Any visible scarring that may be noticeable initially can be covered with makeup. Scarring greatly diminishes over the following weeks and months to the point that it is not noticeable.
